Biathlon update

Alrighty… So everyone keeps asking me when I get a gun and start shooting. I hate to be a downer but I need to learn to ski first. This biathlon thing for me is at least a two year start-up. There are a few reasons for this. 1) I’m not a strong skier (before this year I wore XC skis a grand total of two times in my life). 2) I’m not a strong shooter (see the previous point but replace “wore XC skis” with “went target shooting”). I hope to get more into the guns this summer and put it all together so I can finish last at my first biathlon sometime next February if I’m lucky.

So it’s a slow boat here, everybody. Anyway I’m having a good time. After we went to Bolton Valley last Sunday, where I completely destroyed myself such that I was sore for three days later (and learned the importance of the word “tempo” in terms of physical exertion), my friend/coach/ski-pusher waxed up my skis. Rock!

Since then I went out for some night skiing last night and it was gorgeous. I stayed pretty focused on tempo, trying not to stop ever for the full ummm … heh… 45 minutes I could take it all.

Can’t wait to head out again. My left knee is a bit sore from a Goofy but hey, only one during that session and it was also the first time I stepped into my skis on the first try. Small progress is alright for now.
